Hello, Did you remove the engine through the top of the engine bay or from the bottom by removing the whole front sub assemble. (reverse of how it is installed in the factory)?

aussie02: Removing from top much more easier.

irwan: The removal of the engine is a real bitch of a job I'm pretty ure the factory must have dropped the body shell onto the motor and gearbox in place. MOST of The bolts holding the motor and gearbox together are in a VERY tight position wih very little room to fit a socket let along swing th rachet. An evil sod from the factory also TORQUED the most inaccessable bolts to about 500 ft/lbs !!

Worst engine removal I've ever done.

Couldn't you have left the gearbox attached and taken the whole lot out in one piece?

So really it seems like it's easier to drop the motor with the subframe but then you would need a hoist. I have done it that way with an Nissan xtrail, but the motor faces the other way.

I did consider removing the motor and box(es) in one unit but it looked pretty difficult because the gearbox and transfer box are all bolted together and quiet a bulky unit. A lot of other things , like maybe the steering rack would probably need removing too. I wanted to be able to move the body shell around after. I did have a 2 tonne engine hoist on castor wheels which was pretty useful. I think a single fixed point winch like attached to a beam in the garage would have made it more difficult.
