Hi to anyone that can help, I have a 1.6Lt EFI 1998 Dihatsu Applause and my fuel pump isn't kicking in. The engine turns over, but won't start. I am wondering where all fuel filters and pumps are located in the car. Also removal and installation tips please. Urgent, thanks in advance

Hello Janine and Tim,

I have the manual at home and will take a look in there to see if I can find it. For now I can only tell there is one fuelfilter underneath the bonnet near the windowwiper motor. My Guess is that the fuelpump is underneath the backseats but I will have a look in the manual tonight.

Thank you for helping out. Was there anything in the manual regarding the fuel pump location. Tia

more than likely in the tank itself, might be able to get to it from under the rear seat otherwise have to drop the tank out to replace. new pumps are fairly cheap on ebay. if dropping the tank try to siphon as much fuel as possible out, not 100% sure but the charades have a drain plug. only filter apart from on pump(if intank) should be on the fire wall, passenger side of engine bay :)

What I can find in the manual is that it is inside the enginebay near the firewall, other might indeed be at the fuelpump inside the fueltank, opening is probably underneath the back seats. The manual isn't to clear about it to be honest, what it does say regarding your problems is a disconnected or damaged vacuum hose(probably on the carburetor version) or a fuse/relay broken.

Most of the fuel part of the manual is about the carburetor version badly enough but I hope it helps anyway.

Thank you for that, I appreciate your help. As its EFI, I can always here the furl pump before starting, and there is nothing now. Will remove the rear seat

Cheers

yes, definitely always check the cheapest things first

We checked under the back seat and it isn't there, so it has to be an intank fuel pump. Wish me luck, round 2.

Slight misunderstanding, that's what I meant with under the backseat. Mostly there is a little cover with underneath it the fuelpump itself. If it isn't there I don't know where it could be, could luck searching and let us know for future repairs ;)
